उदयशंकर भट्ट का संक्षिप्त जीवन परिचय दीजिए।

उदयशंकर भट्ट जी का जन्म सन् 1897 ई० में उत्तर प्रदेश के बुलन्दशहर में हुआ। शिक्षा-प्राप्ति के पश्चात् आपने लायलपुर (पाकिस्तान) के एक स्कूल में संस्कृत अध्यापक के रूप में नौकरी शुरू की। वहाँ से आप सनातन धर्म संस्कृत कॉलेज, लाहौर में पढ़ाते रहे। यहीं पर इन्होंने साहित्य साधना आरम्भ की। विभाजन के बाद इन्होंने दिल्ली के आकाशवाणी केंद्र में कार्य किया। इनके अभिनव एकांकी, स्त्री का हृदय, आदिम युग, समस्या का अन्त, अन्धकार और प्रकाश तथा पर्दे के पीछे एकांकी संग्रह विशेष उल्लेखनीय हैं। इन्होंने अनेक रेडियो एकांकी भी लिखे हैं। सन् 1964 ई० में इनका निधन हो गया था।

लेखक के घर एक लड़की ने जन्म लिया है। उसकी सुन्दरता को देख लेखक सोचता है कि बच्चे सचमुच भगवान् का रूप होते हैं किन्तु समाज में लड़की को उपेक्षा की दृष्टि से देखा जाता है। अस्पताल की नर्स ने भी लड़की के जन्म की खबर सुनाना भी उचित नहीं समझा था। वहाँ उपस्थित एक बुढ़िया ने भी कहा-तैयारी तो लड़के की थी, पर हुई लड़की। समाज में लड़की को जन्म देना कष्टदायक माना जाता है जबकि लड़के को जन्म देने पर माँ अपनी तकलीफ़ भूल जाती है। लेखक सोचता है कि क्या उसकी पत्नी कमला भी ऐसे ही सोचती होगी? वह तो अपने माँ-बाप की सबसे बड़ी बेटी है। कमला के पिता ने भी लड़की के जन्म को अच्छा माना था। माँ ने भी पहली लड़की को लक्ष्मी कहा था। पर पिता ने कहा था कोई बात नहीं, घर में लक्ष्मी आई है। लेखक को ‘कोई बात नहीं’ का अर्थ समझ में नहीं आया। लगा कि वे लेखक को तसल्ली दे रहे हों और अपने मन को समझा रहे हों। इसी कारण लड़की के जन्म की सूचना तार द्वारा न भेजकर पोस्टकार्ड द्वारा भेजने को कहा था।
