Prime Minister Research Fellowship (PMRF) Details

Prime Minister Research Fellowship (PMRF) can be applied only through online mode. Prime Minister Research Fellowship is for students pursuing Ph.d. programme in. PMRF is a Ph.D. fellowship program offered to meritorious students from NITs, IITs, IISERs, and IISC. These meritorious students will get admission to Ph.D. in IITs and IISC to complete their research. The PMRF application releases twice a year, one in May and the second in December.

The duration of the fellowship is 4 years for integrated students. Whereas, the duration is 5 years for B.Tech. students. Industry participation will be explored under the PMRF Program through CSR funding. So that the industry will be enabled to sponsor the maximum number of fellows. PMRF Eligibility Criteria

  • Candidates should be pursuing the last year of the following degrees. These programs must be in science and technology streams from IISC or IITs or IISERs.
    • 4 or 5-year undergraduate or 5-year integrated M.Tech
    • 5-year integrated M.Sc. or 2-year M.Sc.
    • 5-year undergraduate-postgraduate dual degree
  • Candidates must be pursuing or completed the last year of the above-mentioned programs. Prime Minister Research Fellowship Selection Process

The PMRF selection process based on the selection of the received applications by the selection committee. The committee conducts interviews for every subject to select the best candidates. However, the institute will be allocated for the doctoral study as per the selected candidate’s choices. Also, the allocation depends on the available seats and infrastructure. The selected fellows will receive a fellowship amount. Then, the continuation of the next year’s fellowship will be contingent upon successful assessment.

National doctoral fellowship Eligibility Criteria

  • The fellowship/contingency will be given to research scholars recognised in the research institute of AICTE. National Nodal Centre will increase the method for choosing applicants as per the eligibility standards for award of National Doctoral Fellowship.
  • The applicant must have obtained a combined grade point score of 7.5 on the scale of 10 or equivalent at both B.E/B.Tech/B.Pharm and M.E/M.Tech/M.Pharm. In addition to the above, the applicant should have passed GATE/GPAT through the last five years. For SC/ST/PH applicants CGPA provision will be 7.0 on the range of 10 or equivalent or general applicant must have obtained 75% marks or above & 70% marks for applicants of reserved classes. 
  • The applicant should be below 30 years of age as on 31st August of the year of application yet age relaxation of 5 years would apply to applicants pertaining to SC/ST, women and physically challenged class.

Fellowship Duration of NDF

The term of the plan shall be for 3 Years. No additional extension will be given, though, extendable by six months in exceptional cases with the guidance of Institute and permission of National Nodal Centre. An additional expansion of 6 months may be given on the advice with the permission of AICTE.

Intake of NDF Scheme

The whole number of applicants chosen under this plan per year would be restricted to 150 per year. A number of applicants/Institute would be about 3 per Institute subjected to the availability of positions in the research hub and need of a research centre by applicants. If the seats allocated to the Institution continue empty, these seats will be allocated to the other institutions by the Nodal Centre on the permission of AICTE.

Reservation Policy

Reservation for the fellowship will be as per Central Reservation Policy, i.e. 15% to SC applicants, 7.5% to ST applicants and 27% to OBC applicants (NCL only), and will be recognised at National level.

National doctoral fellowship Rewards

The applicant will be granted the fellowship of Rs. 28,000/- per month + House rent allowance(HRA) wheresoever the hostel convenience/Institute accommodation is not possible as per the standards of Ph.D. Scholarship published by Ministry of Human Resource Development, Department of Higher Education Contingency allowance will be applicable at the pace of Rs.15,000/- per annum.

The chosen Nodal Centre may be issued an amount of Rs.11.00 lakhs yearly for meeting the expense on Honorarium/Wage to DEO/Clerks and for conference prices of National Nodal Centre Coordinator’s Office.

National doctoral fellowship Selection Procedure

The National Nodal Centre of AICTE will identify candidates as per the roles and duties of National Nodal Centre. 

Terms and Conditions

  • The fellow shall present an annual statement on the development, each year by the Research Supervisor, Head of the Department and Head of the Institute.
  • The fellow should submit the last progress report by the Head of the Department / Institution to the AICTE.
  • The fellow shall not be granted for the transferral of award from the Institution where the awardee is presently working for PhD through the whole occupation of the award.
  • The fellow shall dedicate full time to study during the occupation of fellowship and will not be authorised to take any part-time/full-time assignment. Candidates will not receive any other pay or fellowship if granted during the occupation of fellowship by any other source. The quality of the candidature (Full-time AICTE sponsored National Doctoral Fellow) will not replace during the program.
  • The fellow shall provide a statement that if the outcomes of research are such that can be employed commercially by using a license or otherwise economic exploitation and copyright should be with the Institute, applicant and administrator. However, the laws of the respective research institute, if any, in these interests will be suitable.
  • AICTE online gateway will have PG Scholarship gateway like mechanism to release fellowship/HRA etc. amount immediately in the bank account of the receiver through DBT. 
  • The service requirements specified in the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Department of Higher Education guidance published vide F. Number 17-2/2014-TS. I dated 18.02.2015 shall apply to awardees.
  • If the growth of the applicant is not adequate as described by the supervisor/Head of the Department /Head of the research institute, the grant of the candidature will be cancelled with instant effect. This will not be revoked under any conditions.
  • The PhD rules/ordinances of the research institute and the affiliating university will apply to all accepted applicants under this project.

SPM Fellowship | Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Fellowship Eligibility Criteria, Selection Procedure

SPM Fellowship

SPM Fellowship: To celebrate the birth anniversary year (2000) of Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, CSIR has established a special fellowship after the name of “Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee”, which is called (SPM) FELLOWSHIP. He was the first Vice-President of CSIR of Independent India. This fellowship is open to toppers of CSIR-UGC JRF (NET) awardees.

This fellowship has been launched to nourish the young scientific talent and to sustain the purpose of the hunt of scientific research. The scope of this fellowship is seeking Ph.D programmes with a unique fellowship in CSIR Labs/other specialized R & D institutions/universities.

Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Fellowship Eligibility Criteria, Selection Procedure

The stipend provided under this fellowship is Rs.36000/- + HRA every month, during the first two years of the fellowship and a Contingency award of Rs.70000/- per annum may be increased to Rs.42000/- + HRA per month from third year onwards based on assessment through interview. These stipends may be returned to JRF (NET), if performance is found unsatisfactory.

The duration of SPM Fellowship is initially for 2 years. Extendable as per standard rules for CSIR JRF (NET) plan. The maximum tenure will be up to 5 years.

SPM Fellowship Contingent Grant

An annual contingent stipend of Rs.70,000/- per person is provided to the University/Institution. For less than one year, the contingent grant will be applicable on a pro-rata basis. A portion of this grant may be used by the fellows, in the case of research work, purchase of books, etc.

The unspent amount of contingency grant may be carried forth to the next year, at the end of a year. Still, the upcoming release of contingency reward will be subject to modification of unspent balance of contingency reward of the prior year. It is thereby limiting contingency payment to a maximum of Rs. 70,000/- in a year. Moreover, request (claim) for freedom of contingency grant of the past financial years will not be considered.

The CSIR Research Fellows will be granted a lump sum amount of Rs.3000/- extra when they submit the PhD thesis in e-form. Contingency grant can be used for:

  • Buying books, etc. related to research topics.
  • Reaching train ticket (AC III tier) and DA in case the fellow requires to travel in hunt of research or presenting a paper in the conference.
  • To register for PhD programme & submission of thesis.
  • To use for registration fees for visiting conferences in India & abroad.
  • To buy chemicals/ consumable things/ minor equipment.
  • Copies of research papers.
  • Contingency allowance may be utilized for unique items such as buying laptop/desktop computer once in the complete tenure, on the recommendation of the supervisor. Though the prior consent of CSIR is necessary. The items which are purchased, will be the property of the host institute and the fellow has to submit all those items, on completion of their tenure or resignation from the fellowship.
  • For attending discussions abroad, SPM Fellows should be employed in the travel allowance scheme of HRDG where partial/ full airfare is given to research students for giving their research papers. Yet, once in the complete tenure, per diem expenses for the conference session can be challenged from contingency allowance as per host institute’s rule.

Eligibility Criteria

A maximum of 10 SPM Fellowships will be awarded through an interview method from NET held in December 2014, each in Chemical Sciences and Life Sciences, and five each in Earth, Mathematical, Physical and Engineering Sciences.

Only those applicants who fulfil the below given criteria will be called for SPM fellowship interview.

  • Applicants in the ratio of 1:3 will be called for an interview in each subject.
    Category-wise number of applicants to be called for an interview based on reservation procedure, i.e. 27% for
  • OBC, 15% for SC, 7.5% for ST and 3% for PWD.
  • Top 14 applicants each in Chemical and Life Sciences, and seven applicants each in Earth, Mathematical, Physical and Engineering Sciences in an unreserved category will be taken from the consolidated merit list of General/OBC/SC/ST/PWD.
  • Top 8 applicants each in Chemical and Life Sciences, and four contestants each in Earth, Mathematical, Physical and Engineering Sciences will be taken from OBC section. Maximum leisure of 5% of the cut off of the 14th/7th applicants of an unreserved section will be given to OBC applicants subject to a shortlisting of a maximum of 8/4 applicants for an interview in the particular subject.
  • Top 5 applicants each in Chemical and Life Sciences, and two applicants each in Earth, Mathematical, Physical and Engineering Sciences will be taken from SC section. Maximum leisure of 10% of the cut off of the 14th/7th applicants of an unreserved section will be given to SC applicants subject to shortlisting of a maximum of 5/2 applicants for an interview in the particular subject.
  • Top 2 applicants each in Chemical and Life Sciences, and one applicant each in Earth, Mathematical, Physical and Engineering Sciences will be taken from ST category. Humboldt Fellowship Eligibility Criteria

  1. Doctorate or equivalent academic degree (Ph.D., C.Sc. or equivalent), finished less than four years before the date of application. Candidates who have approximately completed their doctoral degrees are suitable to apply. They need to submit the original of their dissertation or publications, including the results of their thesis.
  2. Academic publications evaluated according to international norms and printed in journals and by publishing organisations.
  3. Proof that research equipment is available and mentoring arrangement and a complete expert’s report by an educational host at a research university in Germany. Aspects of the research plan, including information on the expected term of the fellowship, must be matched with the expected host before applying.
  4. Expert inspections from the doctoral administrator and one other academic equipped to give well-founded observations on the applicant’s qualification, preferably including an analyst not working at the candidate’s own institute.
  5. Language skills: Fellows in the humankind or social sciences and physicians must have a sound knowledge of German if it is required to carry out the research favourably; otherwise a good understanding of English. Scientists and engineers must have a solid understanding of German or English.
  6. Applications to extend a research stay already started can only be granted in exceptional circumstances. Foreign academics living in Germany are qualified to apply if they have survived outside Germany for a least 12 months in total in the 18 months before submission of the application. Any time employed in Germany in those 18 months is taken into a record, despite duration or reason. German citizens and educated citizens are generally unsuitable for applying if they have been in Germany in the last 18 months before receipt of their application or are now in Germany at the time of applying.
  7. The Humboldt-Foundation believes that candidates will live by the Laws of Good Scientific System and the legally-binding postulates of scientific standards during the application and sponsorship duration.

Humboldt Fellowship Selection Procedure

The Humboldt Foundation will verify receipt of the online application by email. The time used to conclude whether the applicant satisfies specific formal qualifications, particularly to career stage boundaries and previous visits in Germany, is the time on which the Humboldt Foundation accepts the respective application.

After the form has been checked to guarantee that it is comprehensive and meets the formal specifications for eligible candidates will be notified about the recommended selection date. The application papers will then usually be forwarded to two autonomous reviewers for a written evaluation. Based on these standalone peer reviews, a selection commission composed of about 50 academics from all restraints decides on approving research scholarships. In the case of requests that have consistently been rejected, new forms will be accepted only after 18 months.
